Fugitive Pieces

Fugitive Pieces, wow, what an emotionally satisfying film! This film was so touching in many ways. Every scene had so much meaning and compassion and it kept your attention inventively. Although there were many scenes that I loved, there was one that particularly stood out to me. The scene where Jakob lets Mikayla read his journal, or diary, was very moving to me for many reasons. For one, he never wanted his ex-wife, Alex, to read it, which meant he did not want her to see his true feelings and he was still not comfortable with her; he was still hiding his childhood memories and experiences. But, with Mikayla, he specifically told her to read it. To me, this showed he was truly blissfully happy and content with his life for once. He had found the woman he was completely in love with, someone he could trust, someone he can confide in and tell all his secrets and share his horrific memories of the past. Being able to share life altering experiences is not easy to tell people, but in the end he was able to do that, and that was very moving to me, it was like he was finally set free. There was another scene in the film that I could actually relate to my own personal life. My mother lost her brother when I was about 12 years old. I would always see my mom starring off at something, like a chair or a wall, with a blank expression on her face. I would always ask what she was looking at it and she would say nothing. After seeing this film, and seeing how Jakob was always seeing his sister next to him playing the piano; it made me think. Perhaps this is why my mother was always starring off at something, which looked like nothing. To her, it was something, to her it was her brother, or so i would like to think.
